In today’s new DRSU episode, “Solid Stance Under Fire,” Roufusport Striking Coach Scott Cushman focuses on the concept of your “stance.” Yes, it’s your base—the place you start and return to—but what happens in between is today’s subject. Coach Cush explains that you must use your legs as shock absorbers when defending and returning strikes. By creating an “L” stance with your feet, you’re able to better distribute the impact of incoming strikes, helping you stay balanced and absorb force more efficiently.
This solid foundation doesn’t just keep you on your feet—it makes you a nightmare to deal with. A strong stance forces your opponent to work harder to move you, which drains their energy while you stay grounded and composed. Remember, a great defense starts from the ground up. And as always, keep your defense at 100%.
